Our February 22, 2018 Meetup features presentations on:
WordPress’s editor is making a big change this year. John Paganetti will discuss what’s new, what is still to come, how it is different than other pagebuilders, and what the future has in store for Gutenberg.
For more info about Gutenberg or to test it out, visit: https://wordpress.org/plugins/gutenberg/
CSS Grid is here, having shipped in all major browsers in 2017 and already covering over 80% of web users worldwide. We will all soon be working with it in WordPress, as well, as it is going to be the default layout for Gutenberg columns.
While there are a lot of new rules to learn, CSS Grid is a huge step forward in simplifying CSS layout. Webpages that were a mess of excessive divs with floats and clearfixes, or inline-blocks with cryptically calculated percentages are things of the past. Grid is the most powerful web layout tool we’ve ever had and, once you get past that initial learning curve, it’s also probably the easiest.
Eben Gilkenson will explain the new vocabulary that comes with CSS Grid, talk about the different ways to define a grid and look at how CSS Grid works with existing specifications, such as Flexbox, postitioning and floats. If we have time, Eben will also demonstrate how easy it is to create a WordPress theme with CSS Grid and Flexbox.
